12 Men Died Making This Strip http://www.12mendied.com They died so you could laugh... a webcomic Sun, 06 Jan 2013 18:46:36 +0000 en-US hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.6.1 2013 or I How I Really Blew It in 2012 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1088 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1088#comments Sun, 06 Jan 2013 18:46:36 +0000 Tim http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1088 Rejoice! Or if rejoicing is not your cup of whiskey then do whatever makes you the most happy (sans murder; some of you guys are sick!) So I really dropped the ball in the year that should have been the biggest for a comic that is obsessed with the number 12 but meh, cracked eggs and elephant feet it happens.

2012 was an interesting year for me in a lot of ways. It was a growing year. 2013, now this is a year for great thing! Not that a lot of the things that I was dealing with changed as the year slumped over the finish line but now I have a better handle on them so itas time to get back into making comics!

Yeah, that’s right, making comics because, damnit, that’s what I have been paying this webhost for! More importantly, its something I love doing and I want to do things I love doing. So we will be up and running in a week or so with some new stuff. I am not promising consistancy but I am promising more than no updates this year.

I hope to make this web comic a little more absurd, loved, and cherished. I hope you enjoy this turn of events because I sure as hell hope to!

See you all real soon!

It’s been too quiet. http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1082 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1082#comments Wed, 27 Jun 2012 16:16:15 +0000 Tim http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1082 There has been a bigger delay on new strips than I had first anticipated. I have had a lot on my plate recently as I have been playing double duty parenting as of late. As you see, my wife is pregnant with our third baby which means between her exhaustion and her own real world job she can’t get much done around the house. I have, of course, been picking up the slack around the home as well as all my other duties. So it has been really hard to keep up with anything beyond what I need to do; and when I do have some free time I am usually pretty tired and don’t have the drive to draw.

There is hope. I am taking some time off in the beginning of July so I will have a week to get some things drawn and uploaded. Thanks to everyone who has been checking this website for updates (you have probably been on this site more than I have) and been waiting and waiting and waiting. I am not dead or ill, just busy. I hope to bring you some laughter or at least a crooked smirk soon.

Where is the comic? http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1080 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1080#comments Thu, 19 Apr 2012 15:46:49 +0000 Tim http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1080 Yeah, there is no comic finished for today. This sucks. I am finding out that I am terrible working on a schedule; well, that is not completely true it’s just my schedule is full of every other thing instead of comics. Look, I am not going to write a “poor me” blog post decrying my family and real job, because I need my real job and my family comes first. I also don’t want to quit drawing webcomics so there is only one solution to this problem: I will post comics as soon as they are done. There will be no exact day of the week when new strips will go up it will be pretty haphazard, in fact, a week could go by and nothing get posted. Yeah, it sucks. I don’t want to just race out strips just to fit a deadline that I have prescribed to myself. Sure, posting whenever isn’t going to bring me the fame and fortune like the successful webcomics have (hahahahaha) but it might just keep my sanity about juggling everything. This year is still a great year for 12 Men Died Making This Strip, maybe not as good as I fantasized it but it is still going to be good. We will still grow; new comics will still arrive; maybe we will even garner some cooltastic attention (though I am afraid what going viral would actually do since I can’t put all the time I want into this strip or site).

Well back to work on the next strip; it hopes to see you all real soon!

Better Late than Nothing…. (but late, I guess, is like nothing…) http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1076 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1076#comments Tue, 17 Apr 2012 17:55:22 +0000 Tim http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1076 The new strip will be up on Thursday the 19th this week. Why the delay? Well, I want it to look as cool as possible and I need the time. There is also a little business where I have been working on a commisioned piece for a friend and that had taken up a large chunk of my free time; this is almost finished (maybe) I am just waiting for final approvals and suggestions before I can call it a done deal. I think I have my final doctors appointment tomorrow (well hopefully) about my neck so that should free up some time in the future though it will make tomorrow a little hectic. I am also planing on writing up a blog post about all the fantastic links that I have thrown up there on the right side. There are some really cool people and artists and I am in awe of them; so they deserve some kind words from me. So that is about it for this blog time and I will see you all on Thursday for the new strip. ]]> http://www.12mendied.com/?feed=rss2&p=1076 0 011 – Nursery Rhyme http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1064 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1064#comments Wed, 11 Apr 2012 06:01:00 +0000 Tim http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1064 One of the great mysteries concerning Lovecraft’s mythos is where exactly his great monstrosities came from and while we may never know exactly where we do have a window into a moment of their past. One of the great mysteries concerning Lovecraft’s mythos is where exactly his great monstrosities came from and while we may never know exactly where we do have a window into a moment of their past. I am talking about the time that a young baby Cthulhu spent at Mrs. Tapwort’s Nursery for Monstrous Excellence, of course! Here Cthulhu and many other monsters learned the ways of flippant destruction and the complete disregard of anything that was smaller than them i.e. humans. The Nursery was not without its very own hierarchy of social coolness; baby Godzilla was a right bastard. After many years though, Mrs. Tapwort would shed an acidic tear and remember the days when her “little monsters” were just learning mayhem and universal subjugation of the lesser beings. In her sadness though was a great and fulfilling joy that those that she guided would develop and one day destroy the worlds they would inhabit. Thank you, Mrs. Tapwort, your contributions have been stomped and burned into the cities and hearts of all humankind. ]]> http://www.12mendied.com/?feed=rss2&p=1064 11

I even doodled a bit, in fact, I laid down the sketch for next weeks comic and some of the following strips. It is hard for me not to be optimistic about this turn of events but I am still going to take it easy and not marathon my way through the work; an hour or so each day but the end result (fingers crossed) should be a new comic on April 4th. Thanks everyone who has been checking the site for no updates; I swear somehow I will make this up to you guys… maybe some extra strips on random days? ]]> http://www.12mendied.com/?feed=rss2&p=1051 2 How to Kill Your Webcomic In One Easy Step; or I Haven’t Quit, Really. http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1048 http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1048#comments Wed, 14 Mar 2012 17:20:02 +0000 Tim http://www.12mendied.com/?p=1048 I haven’t quit 12 Men Died Making This Strip though it sure seems like it since I have missed two weeks of comics with little or no reason as to why. I am here right now to set the record straight on this matter. Ten years or so ago I fell down the side of a hill, OK, I ran down the side of a hill and completely crashed at the bottom. In the process of this less-than-graceful unexpected attempt to experience rag doll physics first hand I tore up my upper body something bad. The most destructive casualty of this moment of my life was the tearing of the two top ligaments of my left arm. I was told that it was something I would just get used to and my other muscles would take up the slack but my life would be pretty much normal.

What I didn’t realize was that I royally messed up my muscles in my neck and left shoulder. Flash forward to the present and I am finally taking care of the problem. Getting one’s muscles coaxed back into place is both wonderful and extremely painful when it comes to muscle ache. Sitting at the computer for any period of time just aggravates the pain so I haven’t really been on the computer much. Not being on the computer much means I haven’t been at the WACOM board and well, you can see where it is all leading.

Good news, I am getting better though. I have had two muscles treatments that have been both successful with very minimal backsliding and I have another visit schedualed at the end of the month. Each day I have felt some improvement with less aggravation so I can start to sit back down and draw for short periods of time. I am shooting for a new comic next Wednesday if all things go well. I just wanted to let everyone know what is up and why I have been silent. So, fingers crossed, everything should be getting back to normal very soon. Thanks for the patience, everyone.

Lost to the ages are the remnants of structures built by a mysterious people for some unknown purpose. Scholars today argue about their exact purpose, debating if such monolithic stone structures were built to honor the dead, celebrate the living, or sanctify the gods. Some even debate if such mysterious objects could have even been constructed by past human communities and not built by, perhaps, ancient aliens.

Archeologists have uncovered various artifacts that only lend themselves to the debate of the overall purpose; small metal discs seem to be a common find among the ruins, as if they had been scattered about with abandon. Remnants of various types of food lead others to believe that these places, whatever their use, held a great communal power around its people. Furthermore, these structures are not limited to one specific place on the globe. Ancient people of all types have built relatively similar structures calling into question how well-connected the ancient world was. Where these structures a common evolution of the human mind or was there a greater inter-contectiveness among these various groups across the entire planet?

These questions will remain shrouded to the Mysts of time for more modern civilizations to ponder.
